HOW TO GET A SCHOLARSHIP:

Simply put, money for college is obtained in two ways:

1. From the School where the Student will attend
,

2. Lots and lots of searching for Independent Scholarships!

The section for 1. begins immediately below.
To get to the section for
2. scroll down or click here...

1. Getting Money From the School where the Student will        Attend,

Most of the financial aid money earned by a student comes from the school at which the student is ACCEPTED.
But applying for a school scholarship begins
BEFORE being accepted, and starts with every school at which the student is APPLYING.

When a student applies to a school, there are a very few cases where a scholarship is applied for automatically.
But the vast majority of all school scholarships require a SEPERATE APPLICATION in addition to the regular college application.

AND WHAT'S MORE IS - sometimes, scholarships are not listed on the school website nor published in the application packet. Call the college or university financial aid office directly to request scholarship information for that school.
VERY IMPORTANT - Make that call as early as possible (
September of senior year) as the scholarship
may have a deadline earlier than the application deadline.

MINORITY STUDENTS: Contact the minority affairs office of the college to which you are appyling. Often scholarships for minorities are listed seperately.

                                                                    ~~~~
Depending on what college you are interested in, you may be able to start the above processes right here...
Searching for independent scholarships can be a time-consuming, tiring, hard-working, sometimes fruitless effort simply to find applications for scholarships for which the student may eventually not even be selected!!
Isn't it GREAT!!!!!
Seniors and their parents should dive into the fray with enthusiastic abandon searching every available avenue for scholarship money with the firm knowledge that while it will take A LOT of work, it
