At Cincinnati Public Schools, we engage and develop our nearly 6,000 employees who teach, connect and engage with our students, families and community. CPS not only has one of the best workforces preparing students for life, but we also ensure that graduates are well-prepared and career-ready.
In recognition, CPS has been named one of Ohio’s 2019 best employers by Forbes Magazine.
Last year, the District redesigned its leadership structure with recommendations from the University of Washington, hiring four Directors of School Leadership to lead day-to-day evaluation and performance enhancements at our 65 school communities. This structure is designed to drive high expectations and deliver outstanding academic results in all of our schools. The Superintendent’s Performance Leadership Team, all district directors and all district managers have graduated from the prestigious Leadership Pipeline Institute. Many senior leaders are enrolled in "I2E2" Training and "Impact U" through Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, in addition to involvement in leadership programs through the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce. Superintendent Laura Mitchell was named among the 2018 Women Who Mean Business by the Cincinnati Business Courier, recognized for her leadership in developing partnerships with local business to expose students to a wide variety of career pathways.
In 2019, CPS will continue to invest in its workforce by expanding our Talent Development Department. The department offers training, resources and professional development training to our nearly 3,000 teachers, as well as principals, administrators, paraprofessionals and other staff who support our school communities.
CPS is the region's 14th largest employer, and it's also the economic engine for the region. The District's My Tomorrow initiative envisions that all CPS graduates will have post-graduation plans to commit to the 3Es: Enrolled in college; Enlisted in the military; and ultimately Employed in their chosen career pathways. Ninety-four percent of the Class of 2019 declared their intention to enroll, enlist or employ. CPS also offers more than 25 career-focused learning options for students from business to zoology, and many students are earning on-the-ground training through job shadowing and internships at regional businesses.
The District celebrated its Forbes List ranking with a celebration in July.
