School Board Releases Details of Students Phased-in Return to School

January 20, 2021

Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) released details of students' return to school beginning the week of February 1.

Instruction will follow the same blended learning schedule as the fall. Most students will attend in-person classes two days per week and remotely two days per week. All CPS students will continue with distance learning on Mondays.

The Board also determined that Walnut Hills High School will migrate out of distance learning and follow an A/B blended learning schedule. The details and timing of this schedule will be shared as soon as available.

CPS will transition students back to the classroom as follows:

The week of February 1 — Grades PK-3 and Specialized Classrooms

  • Monday: All students distance
  • Tuesday-Friday: Specialized Classrooms & Preschool in person
  • Tuesday/Wednesday: K-3 Group A in person
  • Thursday/Friday: K-3 Group B in person

The week of February 15 — Grades 4-6 and 9-12 return

  • Monday: All students distance
  • Tuesday/Wednesday: 4-6 and 9-12 Group A in person
  • Thursday/Friday: 4-6 and 9-12 Group B in person

The week of March 1 — Grades 7-8 return

  • Monday: All students distance
  • Tuesday/Wednesday: 7-8 Group A in person

Due to staffing and technology constraints, a "Remote from Current School" option is not available districtwide. Families, who would like to remain in five-day distance learning, including families currently at Walnut Hills, may enroll in the Cincinnati Digital Academy. Students who choose this option will retain spots in their current school for the next school year.
